Product profile
Silicon carbide foam ceramics use imported polyurethane foam sponges from Germany as a
carrier to squeeze silicon carbide into foam sponges, and then extrude the size, leaving the size coated
around the foam fibers to be dried and sintered at high temperature. Polyurethane is decomposed,
leaving foamed ceramic products, or silicon carbide foam ceramic filters.
Silicon carbide foam ceramic filter with foam sponge three-dimensional mesh interworking
structure can make metal liquid reflect rectifier, mechanical screening, filter cake, adsorption and
other filtering mechanisms to effectively improve the purity of metal liquid, reduce the rate of waste
products. Reduce machining loss so as to improve production efficiency and reduce production costs.
Product characteristicsSilicon carbide foam ceramic filter has the characteristics of high strength, good thermal stability,
large specific surface area and high dimensional precision. It is mainly used for filtering and purifying
ductile cast iron, gray cast iron, aluminum, copper, and other alloy metal liquids. The large inclusions in
liquid metal are removed effectively, the fine magazines are adsorbed, the contents of gas and harmful
elements in liquid metal are reduced, the structure of metal matrix is improved, and the mechanical
properties of castings are improved.

The size of inclusions in liquid metal is used to determine the pore size of the filter (the number of
holes per inch product is PPII; the pore size of the filter is mainly: coarse pore 10PPI 15PPI,
intermediate pore 20PPI, fine pore 25PPI 30PPI).
Ductile iron usually uses products of 10 PPI or 15 PPI, gray iron and copper castings generally use
products of 15 PPI or 20 PPI, aluminum alloy castings generally use 20 PPI or 30PPI specifications.
2. Size selection: the thicker the foam ceramic filter, the better the filter strength, the higher the
filter efficiency, but the higher the use cost. The recommended sizes are as follows: 40mm / 75mm,
thickness 15mm~22mm 75mm ~ 120mm, thickness 22mm~25mm 120mm / 150mm, thickness
25mm~30mm > 150mm, thickness 30mm~40mm
The size of ceramic foam filters should be determined in combination with the type and size of
castings. The maximum liquid metal filtration amount per unit cross section of ceramic foam filters
should generally be controlled in the following range: nodular cast iron ≤ 2kg/ cm² cast iron, gray cast
iron, Copper-aluminium alloy castings ≤ 4kg/ cm² . Size filtration for conventional ceramic foam filters is

Foam ceramic filters can be placed in all parts of the gating system, should be selected according
to the characteristics of castings and production conditions, as close as possible to the casting to
achieve the best filtering effect. In practical application, according to different castings and
requirements, The following could be done:
Matters need attention
(1) It is necessary to use compressed air to blow the dust residue before using the silicon carbide
foam filter.
(2)Use SiC foam filter for pouring temperature not more than 1550 degrees C.
(3)Try to avoid direct impact of metal liquid on the silicon carbide foam filter, and when the filter is
directly impacted, the best casting height should not exceed 350mm.
